With love and admiration, we reflect on the life of Dr. Steven Lester Lieurance, a generous and loving soul who departed this life in June 2026.

In many ways, Steve was a beautiful contradiction: brilliant yet intellectually humble, fiercely competitive yet deeply compassionate, and remarkably strong yet inherently kind-hearted. His quiet strength was a sanctuary for his loved ones. He was always the first to arrive in times of need, never without a handkerchief in his pocket to wipe away a tear, comfort a sniffle, or soothe a scraped elbow or knee for his children and grandchildren.

As a serious professional known to many as Dr. Lieurance, he was widely regarded as the best dentist in the business. However, no patient ever left his chair without hearing a proud update on his grandchildren’s latest accomplishments. To those grandchildren, he was a determined board game competitor, a patient tutor in their hardest subjects, a dedicated chauffeur, and the loudest fan at their sporting events—a passionate trait he proudly passed down to his daughters. The moment he walked through his front door, Steve turned off his serious professional persona to become a silly, joyful "Papa" who brought endless laughter and smiles to his family.

To his daughters, Nikki and Kristi, he was an unwavering rock. There was never a moment in their lives when they couldn’t call their dad. He was the ultimate fixer. Whether untangling a knot in a necklace with his steady hands, rearranging his schedule to drop everything for them, or offering a loving hand and shoulder as a pillar of strength, Dad was always there.

The absolute center of his life was his loving wife, Debbie. He adored her, and his devotion to her reflected the depth of his character. From their very first date at an Elton John concert, he knew "it’s a little bit funny, this feelin’ inside," and they kept dancing from that moment on. For 51 years they shared a beautiful dance, finding immense joy in recent years at local street dances in Lenexa and Prairie Fire. Their bond didn't require a grand event; they shared the kind of deep companionship everyone hopes to find. Whether enjoying game shows and a bowl of cereal for Sunday supper or simply running weekend errands, if you saw Steve, you knew Debbie was close by.

Steve leaves behind a profound void, but also a wealth of memories, countless videos of his grandkids' sports highlights, and an enduring legacy of love. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Lieurance; his daughters, Nikki (Matt) and Kristi (Heath); and his five grandchildren, Reese, Paige, Knox, Brynn, and Kate. He also leaves behind his mother, Delores; his siblings, Cheryl, Gaye-Lynn (Roy), and Ronny (Carrie); his lifelong best friend, Randy Edwards; ten cherished nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; his parents-in-law, Robert and Dolores Hemmen; and his grandparents, Lester and Lillie Jason.

Funeral services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leawood, KS, at noon on July 6th, 2026.
