Scott Eugene Marken

Scott Eugene Marken was born September 21, 1953 in Lyons, Kansas, the son of Alden Scott and Berneta Marie (Brumfield) Marken. Whenever asked where he was from, Scott would say, “All over,” as his father’s career of oil field engineering kept them on the move. Scott’s childhood was spent from Oklahoma to Wyoming and back.

Scott came to know the Lord when he was about 7. At a church altar call, he saw at the front Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit, and he felt the abundant love of God. He would say, “I reached out and grabbed all their knees and said, ‘I want that!’” In recent years, he realized there was never a time that he didn’t know God.

Scott graduated from Wichita West High School in Kansas, where he lettered in 4 sports, with special affection for wrestling and baseball. Scott won the state championship for wrestling in Kansas. He then started college in Casper, Wyoming. His independent spirit kept him seeking adventure from working in a Uranium Mine in Wyoming, to creating a horse-betting method with a friend in Ruidoso, NM, to a 30 day fast on an ashram in Sedona, AZ, to installing water heaters in San Francisco, CA, Scott lived every moment with gusto.

Scott settled into a career of computer programming in 1981, and 8 years later, while contracting at IBM, Scott met the love of his life. On May 25, 1991, Scott was married to Amy Michele Brock in Arlington, Texas. From that point, the two were inseparable. If you saw Scott and Amy walking and took a closer look you noticed they were always holding hands.

Scott had a long & distinguished IT career, consulting from business to business, until he decided to call Bank of America home. In 1999, he started as a consultant, and transferred to a full-time employee in 2009 as Vice President in Production Support Services. He remained with the bank until his health prevented him from continuing in 2021. During his time, he was recognized as subject matter expert but more importantly as a great teammate, friend and mentor to those he worked with.

Scott was happiest around others. He was known for his sense of humor and his candor. He was nicknamed “the bricker” by his Bible Study team, because with his words he could throw a brick at you. He would let you know if you were saying something unscriptural or if you were not believing who you are as a child of God. In recent years, Scott dove into understanding God’s promises about healing. Scott and Amy hosted a home Bible Study and a virtual one, and he was a great encourager for others to do the same. Over the last 2 years, 8 Texas Bible Studies can point to Scott as influential in their starting.

Family was of utmost importance to Scott, and he greatly valued time with his sisters, brother, and abundance of nieces and nephews. He was loved and respected by family and often sought out for wisdom, comfort and humor. For the last 25 years, the only vacations he took were to visit family.

Scott was preceded in death by his father Alden, mother Neta, and step-father Art Gundling. Scott was greatly loved and will be missed by many. Scott is survived by his wife, Amy Marken, brother Brady & Bobbie Marken of Troy, MT, sister Terry Wills-Cathcart & Jim of Douglas, WY, sister Gail Marken of South Windsor, CT, and sister Gina Marken of La Feria, Texas; second parents Ron & Sally Brock, sister-in-law Marianne & Jeff Snider; and a number of very special nieces and nephews: Ryan & Travis Wills, Nevaeh & Jaiden Cathcart, Taylor & Teryn Libby, Britt Yakushin, Kelly Ann Starner, Zeke, Brian & Kasey Pershing, Angie Cavallini, and Joshua, Colby & MacKenzie Snider.

A visitation for Scott will be held Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 South Interstate 35e, Carrollton, TX 75006. A funeral service will occur Friday, March 17, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1511 South Interstate 35e, Carrollton, TX 75006. A reception will occur Friday, March 17, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 1511 South Interstate 35e, Carrollton, TX 75006.
